Scott Moviel had another strong performance, Connor Graham outdueled Kelvin De La Cruz, and Kevin Ahrens went deep for the second time.

South Atlantic League

Prospect Of The Day

Savannah (Mets) righthander Scott Moviel has been outstanding lately, not allowing more than two earned runs in any of his last seven starts, and he continued that streak last night, pitching six shutout innings against Lexington (Astros). He allowed just three hits, walked none and struck out three while improving his mark to 9-7, 4.27. Moviel has come a long way since starting the year 1-4, 9.68 through his first five starts. Although he doesn’t maintain a high strikeout rate (6.03 K/9), he’s  doing a better job of keeping the ball on the ground, raising his groundout-fly out ratio from 1.40 on June 8 to 1.81 today, and has won his last six decisions.

Prospect Nuggets

In the second game of the doubleheader between Asheville (Rockies) and Lake County (Indians), starters Connor Graham for Asheville and Kelvin De La Cruz for Lake County each pitched seven-inning complete games. De La Cruz was good, holding Asheville to two runs on four hits with seven strikeouts, but Graham was better, throwing a one-hit shutout with two walks and six strikeouts … Charleston (Yankees) shortstop Carmen Angelini went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two stolen bases in a 9-3 win over West Virginia (Brewers) … While Che-Hsuan Lin was in New York for the Futures Game, his Greenville (Red Sox) teammate Oscar Tejeda went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in a 4-3 loss to Lakewood (Phillies).

What To Watch For Today

Asheville and Lake County, the SAL’s two first-half division champions, continue their series tonight at 7:00 EDT.

Midwest League

Prospect Of The Day

Lansing (Blue Jays) third baseman Kevin Ahrens went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and his second home run of the season in a 5-4 win over Burlington (Royals). With a line of .269/.334/.375 through 312 at-bats on the year, Ahrens hasn’t hit for the power he’s projected to, but he’s been holding his own in a tough league for hitters.

Prospect Nuggets

In that Lansing-Burlington game, Lugnuts shortstop Justin Jackson hit a game-winning two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh, his sixth long ball of the year. Jackson went 1-for-4 on the night … Quad Cities (Cardinals) teammates Pete Kozma and Brett Wallace each had two hits in an 8-4 loss to Clinton (Rangers) … Cedar Rapids (Angels) lefthander Robert Fish fanned nine over six innings against Great Lakes (Dodgers), but gave up two runs on five hits and three walks to take a no decision.

What To Watch For Today

Lefthander Danny Duffy (4-4, 3.17) will go for Burlington in the rubber game of their series with Lansing at 7:00 EDT … Righthander Jordan Walden (4-6, 2.26) will take the ball for Cedar Rapids as they try to sweep Great Lakes at 7:00 EDT.
