Low A Dish: Heyward Back In A Groove

Jason Heyward is getting his bat going again, so is Ben Revere and Phillippe Aumont has returned to Wisconsin’s rotation.

Prospect Of The Day

It’s been a while since we gave Jason Heyward some recognition, so we’ll try to make up for it today. The Rome (Braves) right fielder went 2-for-4 with his sixth triple last night as the Braves beat Hagerstown (Nationals) 6-1. The Braves scored all six of their runs in the first inning, with Heyward contributing a single and coming around to score on a hit by Freddie Freeman. This was Heyward’s seventh multi-hit game in his last 10, and he’s upped his season line to .325/.390/.489.

Prospect Nuggets

Freeman went 2-for-2 with a walk and has reached base in seven consecutive plate appearances … Third baseman Matt Dominguez and center fielder Mike Stanton kept on hitting for Greensboro (Marlins). Dominguez hit his 12th home run, although that was his only hit of the night, and Stanton went 2-for-4 and hit his third triple of the year. It wasn’t enough this time though, as Hickory (Pirates) trounced Greensboro 12-3 on the strength of a seven-run sixth inning.

What To Watch For Today

We could be in for some fireworks this weekend as Stanton, Dominguez and the rest of Greensboro’s lineup travel to the SAL’s most hitter-friendly park, Asheville (Rockies). That’s not to say their task will be easy, since the Tourists boast the SAL’s second best team-ERA (3.28) and will send staff ace Connor Graham (10-5, 2.15) to the mound tonight … White Sox first-round pick shortstop Gordon Beckham has been assigned to Kannapolis, so be on the watch for his debut.

Midwest League

Prospect Of The Day

Much like Heyward, it’s been a while since we were able to give Ben Revere some recognition, but he’s been back to his usual self over the last couple of days, getting hits and doing damage on the bases. He got two hits and stole three bases on Wednesday, and followed that up with two more hits and two more steals last night. He also scored two runs to help lead the Snappers to a 6-1 win over Quad Cities (Cardinals). Overall, Revere is 25 for his last 26 in stolen bases and his 43 on the season is second in the league.

Prospect Nuggets

Wisconsin (Mariners) righthander Phillippe Aumont made his first start since June 9he pitched three innings in relief last Saturdayas the Mariners didn’t take in any chances in bringing him back from a sore elbow.  Aumont threw four innings yesterday againt Peoria (Cubs), allowing two runs on three hits, with three strikeouts and one walk … Cedar Rapids (Angels) lefthander Trevor Reckling threw five shutout innings against Kane County (Athletics), allowing only five hits, a walk and fanning three, but was denied a chance for his 10th win of the year when the Kernels’ bullpen allowed eight runs over the game’s final four frames … Dayton (Reds) catcher Devin Mesoraco went 2-for-4 with a double, his 13th of the year.

What To Watch For Today

West Michigan (Tigers) will send MWL ERA leader Jonathan Kibler (13-4, 1.72) to the hill tonight againt Lansing (Blue Jays) … Fort Wayne (Padres) sits three games behind Dayton for the MWL East’s second-half wild card spot. The Wizards will try to avoid being swept tonight as they host first-place South Bend (Diamondbacks), the MWL’s best road team in the second-half.
