Low A Dish: Gindl Stays Hot

South Atlantic League

Prospect Of The Day

West Virginia (Brewers) right fielder Caleb Gindl went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in a 4-1 win over Lexington (Astros). Gindl is riding an 11-game hitting streak that includes seven multi-hit games, and his advanced bat has helped him hit .345/.416/.545 since the all-star break, putting his line for the year at .306/.386/.478.

Prospect Nuggets

Savannah (Mets) catcher Francisco Pena went 2-for-4 against Charleston (Yankees). The 18-year-old Pena looks to be finishing the season on a high note, as he’s hitting .323/.333/.403 so far in August … Delmarva (Orioles) shortstop Tyler Henson went 3-for-5 with a double (24), a home run (11) and three RBIs in an 8-3 win over Lakewood (Phillies), putting his line for the year at .274/.316/.406. The 20-year-old Henson was playing shortstop for the first time all year after having manned third base throughout the season. He moved to third after committing 30 errors in 67 games at shortstop last year. He’s been better at the hot corner this year but has still committed 28 errors in 119 games.

What To Watch For Today

There will be a couple of doubleheaders today, Columbus (Rays) hosting Rome (Braves) and Kannapolis (White Sox) hosting Greensboro (Marlins).

Midwest League

Prospect Of The Day

Not to get repetitive, but we’re giving POTD honors to another Fort Wayne (Padres) pitcher. Lefthander Cory Luebke pitched 7 2/3 shutout innings against South Bend (Diamondbacks). He gave only four hits, struck out eight, didn’t issue any walks and had one stretch in which he retired 15 consecutive hitters from the third inning to the eighth inning. It wasn’t enough though, as Luebke was matched by South Bend righthander Josh Collmenter, who threw six shutout innings, and a trio of relievers who kept Fort Wayne off the board all night, allowing South Bend to win 2-0 in 11 innings.

Prospect Nuggets

Clinton (Rangers) center fielder Engel Beltre went 3-for-5 with a double in an 11-6 win over Peoria (Cubs) … Neftali Soto served as Dayton’s (Reds) DH and went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. This was his third straight multi-hit game and he’s on a 10-game hitting streak overall … Cedar Rapids (Angles) lefthander Trevor Reckling picked up his 10th win of the year after going six innings and allowing two runs on three hits against Wisconsin (Mariners). He fanned six and walked only one, improving his mark to 10-6, 3.13.

What To Watch For Today

Burlington (Royals) sends righthander Alex Caldera (11-6, 3.04) to the hill tonight against Quad Cities (Cardinals). Caldera is 7-1, 2.85 in the second-half and has won six straight decisions.
