Low A Dish: Duffy Leads Bees To No-Hitter

Danny Duffy pitched six innings in a combined no-hitter, Cody Johnson went deep twice and Nick Noonan had a big night as well.

Rome (Braves) left fielder Cody Johnson hit two home runs, including a grand slam in the second inning, as the Braves slugged out a 12-9 win over Charleston (Yankees). Johnson went 2-for-5 and drove in six on the night, and he became the third Sally Leaguer to reach the 20-homer plateau this year. He also struck out twice, putting him at 160 whiffs in 397 at-bats for the year.

Augusta (Giants) teammates Nick Noonan and Angel Villalona each went 2-for-5 as the GreenJackets downed Greensboro (Marlins). Villalona had a double and Noonan doubled and homered … Greensboro third baseman Matt Dominguez went 2-for-4 with a double in the loss, his third consecutive two-hit game … Jesus Montero DH’d for Charleston and went 2-for-2 with a double–his 30th–and three walks.

Columbus (Rays) and Savannah (Mets) will play a doubleheader starting at 5:00 EDT.

Prospect Of The Day

No contest today. Burlington (Royals) lefthander Danny Duffy combined with reliever Juan Abreu to throw a  no-hitter against Peoria (Cubs). Duffy went the first six, walking two and striking out four. He retired the last 12 hitters he faced and improved his line to 7-4, 2.48 on the year. Abreu came in and finished the job, striking out five over the final three innings and giving up just one walk.

Burlington third baseman Mike Moustakas went 2-for-5 with a double in support of the no-hit bid … Beloit (Twins) righthander Mike McCardell went eight innings against Kane County (Athletics), allwoing three runs–two earned–on five hits. He struck out seven and walked only one … Great Lakes (Dodgers) DH Andrew Lambo went 2-for-3 with a double as the Loons completed as suspended game against West Michigan (Tigers).

What To Watch For Today

Clinton (Rangers) sends righthander Blake Beavan (8-6, 2.42) to the hill tonight against Wisconsin (Mariners) at 8:00 EDT. The Timber Rattlers will counter with righthander Juan Ramirez (4-8, 4.55).
