Low A Dish: Duffy Handcuffs Clinton

South Atlantic League

Prospect Of The Day

Augusta (Giants) second baseman Nick Noonan went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, giving him 13 for the season, in a 7-3 loss to Greenville (Red Sox), raising his line to .284/.314/.442. Although the 19-year-old Noonan is hitting for a lower average than he did last year in the AZL, when he hit .316/.357/.451 in his pro debut, his power numbers are about the same and he’s continued to show a knack for picking his spots to steal bases, going 12-for-13 in that department so far this year.

Midwest League

Prospect Of The Day

One day after teammate Sam Runion notched his fist win of 2008, Burlington (Royals) lefthander Danny Duffy followed suit in the Bees’ 5-1 over Clinton (Rangers). Duffy had struggled in his first three starts, allowing 11 runs in 11 2/3 innigs, but against Clinton he went 5 2/3 shutout innings, allowing only one hit–a single–three walks and three strikeouts. Duffy had pitch out of a bases loaded jam in the second but cruised from there, retiring 12 of the final 13 hitters he faced before being removed.

"The last couple outings, he gets frustrated with himself and throws harder and harder and harder," Bees pitching coach Doug Henry told the Burlington Hawk Eye. "Today, (catcher Ryan) Eigsti and I backed him off and made him use his off-speed pitches. It did wonders for him. It made his fastball a lot livelier."

Prospect Nuggets

Italiano gave up three runs (one earned) on three hits in six innings of work. He walked three, struck out three and received a no decision in a game Cedar Rapids eventually won 4-3 … Dayton (Reds) catcher Devin Mesoraco went 2-for-4 with a double, his third, in a 4-3 win over West Michigan (Tigers).
