Danny Duffy shut down Quad Cities, Angel Villalona had three hits and Justin Smoak made his professional debut.

South Atlantic League

Prospect Of The Day

Augusta (Giants) first baseman Angel Villalona went 3-for-4 with a double as the GreenJackets cruised past Lexington (Astros) 5-1. This was Villalona’s first three-hit game since May 18 and he raised his line for the year to .254/.302/.416.

Prospect Nuggets

Greenville (Red Sox) shortstop Oscar Tejeda went 2-for-4 with a double (16), triple (1) and a run scored as the struggling Drive dropped its fifth in a row … Charleston (Yankees) catcher Jesus Montero went 2-for-4 with his first triple of the year … Rome (Braves) left fielder Cody Johnson went 2-for-4 with a home run, a triple and four RBIs as the Braves topped Lake County (Indians) 9-6. Johnson also struck out once, giving him 169 for the year. For awhile, Johnson was on pace to threaten the SAL single-season strikeout record of 208, but he looks like he’ll avoid that dubious honor now … Line of the night goes to Delmarva (Orioles) lefthander Zach Britton, who gave up two runs on only one hit over six innings against Savannah (Mets). He struck out seven, but the problem was he issued five walks. Nonetheless, Britton got the victory and improved to 11-6, 3.06.

What To Watch For Today

There are only four games in the SAL tonight. Two of the league’s hottest teams will meet in Kannapolis (White Sox), where the Intimidators will host first-place Augusta.

Midwest League

Prospect Of The Day

Burlington (Royals) lefthander Danny Duffy won his fourth straight decision after tossing five shutout innings against Quad Cities (Cardinals). Duffy gave up only two hits, a walk and struck out seven to improve to 8-4, 2.20 on the year.

Prospect Nuggets

Rangers first-round pick Justin Smoak made his professional debut last night as Clinton (Rangers) took on Peoria (Cubs). Smoak drew a walk in his first plate appearance and went on to go 1-for-3 with a double in the eighth inning for his first professional hit … Righthander Blake Beavan was on the mound for Clinton and turned in a strong outing, giving up only one run on three hits over six innings. He struck out five and walked two, but was denied the victory when the Clinton bullpen blew a 5-1 lead in the late innings … Diamondbacks first-rounder Daniel Schlereth threw a perfect inning of relief with two strikeouts for South Bend … Dayton (Reds) DH Neftali Soto wen 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

What To Watch For Today

Wisconsin (Mariners) righthander Phillippe Aumont (4-4, 2.79) makes his second start off injury this afternoon as the Timber Rattlers take on Kane County (Athletics).
