Michael Burgess had a big night, Devin Mesoraco had his best night so far, and Matt Dominguez had three hits in his second game off the disabled list.

South Atlantic League

Prospect Of The Day

Hagerstown (Nationals) right fielder Michael Burgess wins the award for Thursday. The 19-year-old Burgess is on an eight-game hitting streak, and yesterday against Lexington (Astros) he turned in his second three-hit game in three days, going 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs as the Suns won 7-2.

Prospect Nuggets

The Greensboro (Marlins) lineup got a boost with the return of third baseman Matt Dominguez off the DL. Dominguez went 0-for-3 in his season debut on Tuesday, but bounced back with a 3-for-4 effort against Lakewood (Phillies) yesterday … Charleston (Yankees) DH Austin Romine went 1-for-3 with a double in his return from the DL … Greenville (Red Sox) lefthander Felix Doubront (6.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 SO) didn’t get any offensive support and suffered just his second loss of the season as the Drive dropped a 5-2 decision against Charleston … The best pitching matchup of the night was in Hickory (Pirates) where Duke Welker (5.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO) outdueled Columbus’ (Rays) Alex Cobb (6.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 SO). Welker notched his first win in five starts for the Crawdads ,,, Savannah (Mets) righthander Maikel Cleto had easily the best outing of his young career. The 19-year-old Dominican native pitched a complete game, three-hit shutout against Augusta (Giants). He struck out two, walked one and picked up his first win of the season.

What To Watch For Today

Savannah righthander Scott Moviel (3-5, 6.41) will try to bounce back from a rough outing tonight (7:05 EDT) against Augusta … SAL ERA leader Ryan Miller (7-0, 1.02) will take the hill for Lake County (Indians) against West Virginia (Brewers) at 7:05 EDT.

Midwest League

Prospect Of The Day

Dayton (Reds) catcher Devin Mesoraco gets the nod after going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, even though his team lost 9-4 against Lansing (Blue Jays). It hasn’t always been smooth sailing for Mesoraco since he was called up to Dayton a couple weeks ago, but he’s on a four-game hitting streak and yesterday was his first multi-hit game of the young season. He raised his line to .243/.317/.432 after 37 at-bats on the year.

Prospect Nuggets

Cedar Rapids (Angels) lefthander Robert Fish had been hit pretty hard over his last several outings, but he turned it around last night, pitched seven shutout innings against Wisconsin (Mariners), allowing five hits, one walk with five strikeouts to pick up his second win of the year … Fort Wayne (Padres) left fielder Yefri Carvajal turned in his fourth multi-hit game on the week by going 2-for-4 with an RBI against Great Lakes (Dodgers) … Beloit (Twins) left fielder Ben Revere went 2-for-5 against Clinton (Rangers). He also stole two bases, giving him 12 thefts in 22 games, which is good for seventh on the MWL’s stolen base leaderboard even though he’s only played about half as many games as the players ahead of him.

What To Watch For Today

Several great pitching prospects in action tonight. Let’s start with a re-match of last Sunday’s duel between Clinton’s Neftali Feliz (4-1, 2.53) and Cedar Rapids’ Jordan Walden (2-4, 2.76). Feliz came out on top in the first matchup, and they’ll square-off again tonight (7:30 EDT) in Cedar Rapids … Burlington (Royals) righthander Sam Runion (0-1, 1.50) makes his second start with the Bees tonight (7:30 EDT) against Beloit. He’ll be matched up with Snappers righthander David Bromberg (2-2, 4.69), the MWL’s strikeout leader … And lastly, Wisconsin (Mariners) will send righthander Phillippe Aumont (2-2, 1.07) to the hill against Peoria (Cubs).
