Madison Bumgarner keeps sailing along, Jesus Montero has big night himself and Trevor Reckling shined for Cedar Rapids.

South Atlantic League

Prospect Of The Day

There isn’t much more we can say about Madison Bumgarner’s season at this point, other than to start recycling the same old superlatives. The Augusta (Giants) lefthander turned in what has become a pretty standard outing for him, throwing seven shutout innings against Savannah (Mets), allowing only four hits, no walks and striking out nine. Over his last four starts, the only runs Bumgarner has allowed came on July 22 against Lake County when he had a shutout through seven and tried to come back for the eighth, only to give up three runs. He hasn’t allowed a run in 14 innings since. The victory improves him to 11-3, 1.70 for the year.

Prospect Nuggets

Charleston (Yankees) catcher Jesus Montero was narrowly edged for POTD honors. Montero went 4-for-5 with two doubles and a home run, his 13th, as the RiverDogs topped Greenville (Red Sox) 9-3 … Rome (Braves) right fielder Jason Heyward went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI against Hickory (Pirates) … Greenville third baseman Michael Almanzar went 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles, breaking a 2-for-27 slump … Augusta first baseman Angel Villalona hit his 13th home run of the year and went 1-for-3 on the night … Greensboro (Marlins) righthander Alejandro Sanabia pitched seven shutout innings against Lakewood (Phillies), allowing just three hits, a walk and fanning eight. The 19-year-old Sanabia hasn’t allowed an earned run in his last 25 innings spanning four starts and is now 5-3, 4.16 in 71 innings for the year.

What To Watch For Today

Columbus (Rays), which sits 3 1/2 games behind Augusta for first place in the SAL South, will try for its third straight win over Asheville (Rockies) at 7 p.m. ET.

Midwest League

Prospect Of The Day

Cedar Rapids (Angels) lefthander Trevor Reckling tossed six shutout innings against Clinton (Rangers) as the Kernels cruised to a 16-2 win. He permitted only two hits, no walks and struck out five to improve to 9-4, 2.97 on the year.

Prospect Nuggets

Mike Moustakas served as Burlington’s (Royals) DH and went 2-for-3 with his 18th home run of the season, putting him just one off the league lead … Moustakas did his work in support of righthander Matt Mitchell, who gave up just one run on two hits over five innings to improve to 8-8, 3.63. He struck out three and walked two … Lansing (Blue Jays) second baseman John Tolisano hit his sixth home run of the year as part of a 2-for-5 night against Beloit (Twins).
