Low A Dish: Britton Takes Down Lakewood

South Atlantic League

Prospect Of The Day

Delmarva (Orioles) lefthander Zach Britton wins the award after pitching seven shutout innings against Lakewood (Phillies). Britton allowed only three hits, two walks and struck out seven. Britton bounced back from a rough outing in his last start against Lakewood, when he allowed eight baserunners in only three innings of work, to collect his sixth win of the year and lower his ERA to 2.99.

Prospect Nuggets

Asheville (Rockies) lost a game started by Jhoulys Chacin for the first time since April 14. Chacin gave up three runs on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings against Augusta (Giants), but received no decision … Columbus (Rays) righthander Alex Cobb (6.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 SO) had another strong outing, but as usual didn’t get any run support and took another no decision. Cobb hasn’t allowed more than two earned runs in any of his last seven starts, yet he has only one win over that span … Greensboro (Marlins) right fielder Mike Stanton homered for the third straight day, going 2-for-3 three with a double added in also against West Virginia (Brewers).

What To Watch For Today

Those ever-tense Low A first-half pennant races are coming down to the final weekend. Asheville leads Charleston by just one game in the South Division entering the weekend, while Lake County (Indians) holds a two game edge over red hot Greensboro. To wind up the first half, Asheville visits Hickory (Pirates), Charleston hosts Savannah (Mets), Lake County hosts Hagerstown (Nationals), and Greensboro is in West Virginia … Righthander Scott Moviel (5-7, 5.22) will start tonight for Savannah in Charleston.

Midwest League

Prospect Of The Day

Three games were washed out in the MWL yesterday, so pickings were a bit slim for today’s POTD honors. That said, we’ll give the award to Fort Wayne (Padres) shortstop Drew Cumberland, who went 3-for-4 with a stolen base and three runs scored in a 12-8 win over Dayton (Reds). This was Cumberland’s second three-hit game in a row, as the 19-year-old is 7-for-10 since rejoining the team a few days ago from the DL.

Prospect Nuggets

Great Lakes (Dodgers) DH Andrew Lambo went 3-for-4 with a double in a 4-3 loss to South Bend (Diamondbacks) …  Dayton catcher Devin Mesoraco went 1-for-2 at the dish and committed a throwing error trying to cut down Fort Wayne’s Lance Zawadzki stealing second. This was his first error of the year.

What To Watch For Today

Lefthander Robert Fish (4-2, 5.61) gets the start tonight for Cedar Rapids (Angels) against Kane County (Athletics).
