The Indians have promoted two of their top young outfielders, moving Luigi Rodriguez up from low Class A Lake County to high Class A Carolina and bringing Anthony Santander to Lake County from extended spring training.
Rodriguez, 20, is Cleveland’s No. 8 prospect and had hit .263/.345/.329 in 22 games for the Captains after spending the entire 2012 season with Lake County. Rodriguez still gets big with his swing and needs to keep his strikeouts in check, but he’s a 70 runner with solid plate patience.
Santander was a July 2 signing in 2011 out of Venezuela who has moved extremely quickly. The 18-year-old corner outfielder hit .305/.381/.494 in 43 games last year in the Rookie-level Arizona League and is the organization’s No. 14 prospect. He joins Dominican shortstop Dorssys Paulino as two of Cleveland’s international signings from the 2011 who have rapidly pushed through the system to the Midwest League already.
