Prospect Of The Day

Stockton (Athletics) slugger Chris Carter hit his league leading 26th home run last night, giving the Ports a little insurance in their 3-0 win over San Jose (Giants). Carter was 1-for-3 and is now hitting .261/.370/.574 in 333 at-bats and has lit up opposing pitchers to the tune of .346/.382/.788 in July.

Prospect Nuggets

Inland Empire (Dodgers) third baseman Austin Gallagher hasn’t been slowed in the least. He was 2-for-5 last night with a double, his 23rd, and an RBI…Lancaster (Red Sox) outfielder Josh Reddick took the DH duties and went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored…Lefthander Jesse English took the loss against Carter and Stockton, but his line was still pretty good. He struck out nine and walked just two over six innings, but the Giants could only manage five hits on the night and left English hanging.

Prospect Of The Day

Frederick (Orioles) first baseman Brandon Snyder has his average above .300 for the first time since April 10, six games into the season, thanks to a big doubleheader against Myrtle Beach (Braves). Snyder went 2-for-4 with a run scored and RBI in the first game, a 10-8 win, then went 2-for-4 again with two runs scored, an RBI and a double as the Keys took the game 7-2 for the double-dip sweep.

Prospect Nuggets

Myrtle Beach catcher Tyler Flowers was 3-for-4 with  two doubles, a run scored and three RBIs in the first game against Frederick…Potomac (Nationals) lefthander Ross Detwiler was in line for a win after tossing 6 1/3 innings and allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits. He struck out six, but a blown save cost him the victory.

What To Watch For Today

Righthander Brandon Erbe will try to get his consistency back on track for Frederick as he takes the hill against Myrtle Beach. He is currently 6-8, 4.41.

Florida State League

Prospect Of The Day

Ever heard of Logan Morrison? A first baseman playing for Jupiter (Marlins)? There’s no question you have if you’ve been reading these daily capsules. Morrison was at it again yesterday, going 3-for-6 with a double and home run. The double was his 27th while the home run was his eighth. He is now hitting .347/.409/.513 in 320 at-bats.

Prospect Nuggets

Clearwater (Phillies) righthander Andrew Carpenter was recently demoted from Double-A to try and work out some kinks. Last night he pitched seven innings, allowing three runs on six hits, struck out seven, but walked four and fell to 1-3, 2.97…Sarasota (Reds) third baseman Todd Frazier was 2-for-4 with his eighth double in the FSL. He struck out in his other two at-bats.
