High A Dish: Santana Keys Kinston Win

California League

Prospect Of The Day

Barry Enright offered a rare opportunity to bestow a Cal League pitcher with POTD honors, as the Visalia (Diamondbacks) righthander allowed just one hit in six innings and struck out six to lower his ERA to 4.43 for the year. The lone hit was a solo home run in the first inning, but the effort was good enough to earn his 11th win of the season.

Prospect Nuggets

Center fielder Peter Bourjos went 2-for-4 yesterday, including his seventh home run of the season for Rancho Cucamonga (Angels) . . . Modesto (Rockies) righthander Jhoulys Chacin surrendered one run in five innings, striking out five and walking one. The performance comes after he held the opposition scoreless in his last 10 innings . . . San Diego’s first round selection Allan Dykstra tallied the first hit of his professional career, a double, while serving as Lake Elsinore’s (Padres) designated hitter.

What To Watch For Today

Rancho Cucamonga (Angels) will send righthander Jordan Walden to the bump to face High Desert (Mariners) with the hopes of halting their four-game losing streak.

Carolina League

Prospect Of The Day

Kinston (Indians) catcher Carlos Santana went a perfect 3-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and three runs scored. Carolina League pitching has not flummoxed Santana since he made the switch over from the Cal League last month, batting .354 with five longballs in 96 at-bats for Kinston.

Prospect Nuggets

Kinston (Indians) also got help from designated hitter Nick Weglarz and shortstop Carlos Rivero in their 7-4 win over Winston-Salem (White Sox). Weglarz was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI-triple, and Rivero finished 3-for-4 with an RBI . . . Receiving a day off from his regular catching duties, Tyler Flowers was 2-for-3 with two doubles and four RBIs as Myrtle Beach’s (Braves) designated hitter.

What To Watch For Today

Tropical Storm Fay was in no mood for a doubleheader yesterday, raining out the second game of the Kinston (Indians) and Winston-Salem (White Sox) twin bill. The game has been rescheduled for tonight, where Hector Rondon will start for Kinston.

Florida State League

Prospect Of The Day

Lakeland (Tigers) righthander Rick Porcello scattered just three hits over six scoreless innings in a winning effort against Fort Myers (Twins). He bolstered his season line to 8-6, 2.66 with 72 strikeouts and 33 walks in 125 innings.

Prospect Nuggets

Clearwater (Phillies) left fielder Michael Taylor went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, two RBIs and a stolen base. He is batting .330/.381/.555 for the Threshers . . . Lefthander Joe Savery benefited from Taylor’s production, as he earned the win for Clearwater (Phillies) after throwing 5 1/3 innings, allowing three earned runs and fanning five . . .  Running his hitting streak to seven games, Dunedin (Blue Jays) first baseman David Cooper finished 2-for-4 with his seventh double in 79 high Class A at-bats. Since August 22, Cooper has raised his batting average from .246 to .291.

What To Watch For Today

The top two teams in the West division will meet as first-place Dunedin (Blue Jays) collides with Tampa (Yankees).
