High A Dish: Rollins Shuts Down Sarasota

California League

Prospect Of The Day

Kellen Kulbacki hasn’t seen a ton of success since being promoted to high Class A Lake Elsinore (Padres), but he definitely made a contribution last night. Kulbacki went 3-for-5 with two home runs, giving him six on the year and drove in three runs.

Prospect Nuggets

Second baseman Eric Sogard was also 3-for-5, scoring two runs and knocking in one run…Mitch Canham added his third home run of the season, part of a 2-for-5 night…Righthander Henry Rodriguez was demoted from Double-A after many rough outings. His first appearance back didn’t go so well as he gave up five runs on four hits in 3 2/3 innings. He walked six and struck out six.

What To Watch For Today

Lefthander Kasey Kiker (3-1, 4.42) takes the hill for Bakersfield (Rangers), but San Jose (Giants) are starting a very stingy Ben Snyder (6-2, 2.31).

Carolina League

Prospect Of The Day

Chris Marrreo has had his share of struggles this season, but yesterday was a little better. After homering in the completion of a suspended game, Marrero went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs in the scheduled game, but Potomac (Nationals) lost, 11-6.

Prospect Nuggets

Carlos Romero was 2-for-4 with his fourth home run of the season. He scored two runs and picked up an RBI on the solo shot. Kinston (Indians) won, 5-4…Lefthander Aaron Poreda evened up his record at 5-5 after tossing six innings, allowing two runs on four hits. He walked one and struck out two.

What To Watch For Today

Several prospects take the mound today. Righthanderd Jake Arrieta (5-1, 2.45) will face Wilmington (Royals). Lefthander Daniel Moskos (4-3, 4.66) will face Myrtle Beach (Braves) and Ross Detwiler (4-3, 5.76) will face Winston-Salem (White Sox).

Florida State League

Prospect Of The Day

Righthander Heath Rollins runs away with the cake today. He pitched a complete game shutout against a formidable Sarasota (Reds) offense. He allowed just three hits and struck out 10 in the 6-0 victory.

Prospect Nuggets

Outfielder Desmond Jennings backed up Rollins by going 2-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored. He also swiped his third bag of the season…Lakeland tried a tandem start and it went pretty well. Lefthander Duane Below went five innings, allowing just one run on three hits. He struck out five and walked three in the victory. Righthander Jonah Nickerson came on in relief, pitched four innings and picked up a save.

What To Watch For Today

Brevard County and Lakeland have identical records at 32-31 as they face each other today. Just don’t expect to see the probable starter, Nickerson, on the hill. He’s listed on the scoreboard as the starter, but threw four innings last night.
