Prospect Of The Day

Greg Halman has been lighting pitchers up for the last few weeks. The High Desert (Mariners) center fielder made last week’s Hot Sheet and slugged .670 in May. Last night he went 3-for-4 with two double, a home run, two runs scored and an RBI. He is now hitting .276/.329/.590 in 210 at-bats.

Prospect Nuggets

Second baseman Eric Sogard went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs in a 10-5 Lake Elsinore (Padres) win…First baseman Sean Doolittle went 3-for-5 with his 15th double and finished the game in left field for Stockton (Athletics)…Righthander Henry Sosa went 4 1/3, allowing just one run on four hits and a walk while striking out five. San Jose (Giants) couldn’t muster much offense and Sosa took his first loss of 2008…Righthander Chaz Roe earned his second win for Modesto (Rockies) by tossing six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and a walk, while striking out six.

What To Watch For Today

After taking a day off yesterday, Lancaster (Red Sox) and Rancho Cucamonga (Angels) start a four-game series today.

Carolina League

Prospect Of The Day

Jeff Bianchi hasn’t had a great year so far, but last night was impressive. The Wilmington (Royals) second baseman went 4-for-5 with a run scored and two RBIs on two doubles, giving him 11 on the season. That was his second straight 4-for-5 performance, which brings him up to .250/.292/.414 in 128 at-bats.

Prospect Nuggets

Frederick (Orioles) righthander Tim Bascom dropped his second game of 2008, tossing 5 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on six hits, three walks three strikeouts. He is now 1-2, 4.60…Righthander John Ely went 7 2/3 for Winston-Salem (White Sox), allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out six. It was his second win of the season, leaving him at 2-6, 3.96.

What To Watch For Today

Righthander Edward Cegarra, who had a 53-5 strikeout-to-walk ratio at low Class A Burlington, will make his second start for Wilmington against Kinston (Indians).

Florida State League

Prospect Of The Day

Fort Myers (Twins) lefthander Tyler Robertson tossed his third career complete game and improved his season to 4-2, 2.76. He allowed one run on five hits and one walk while striking out five. The lone run came on a solo home run.

Todd Frazier, playing first base last night for Sarasota (Reds), went 3-for-4 with a run, two RBIs and had his first FSL stolen base…Dunedin (Blue Jays) catcher J.P. Arencibia went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs on a double and home run…Lakeland (Tigers) righthander Rick Porcello took another loss, lasting 4 2/3 and allowing four runs on nine hits and three walks, while striking out just one…Righthander Jeremy Jeffress evened up his record at 2-2 with seven innings of work in which he gave up just one run on two hits and two walks while striking out six for Brevard County (Brewers)…Clearwater (Phillies) lefthander Joe Savery’s struggles continued as he went six innings, allowing five runs (two earned) on eight hits and three walks. He struck out three.

What To Watch For Today

Fourth place Daytona (Cubs) looks to gain some ground on Palm Beach (Cardinals), who is atop the Eastern Division, eight games ahead of Daytona.
