High A Dish: Morrison’s Doubleheader Doubles

California League

Prospect Of The Day

Greg Halman and righthander Adam Mills are both deserving of today’s prize, but Mills hasn’t seen this type of success yet so we’ll hand it to him. Mills faced off against Tim Alderson and San Jose (Giants) ending the night with eight innings pitched in which he allowed no runs, no walks and just two hits. He struck out five and improved to 7-4, 4.22.

Prospect Nuggets

Alderson had an exceptional evening as well, but just got out-dueled by Mills. Alderson allowed one run on four hits over 5 2/3 innings. He walked one and struck out eight…Halman went 2-for-5 with two home runs and 3 RBIs. He now has 19 long balls on the year…Barry Enright had another tough outing, giving up seven runs on seven hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out five and fell to 6-4, 5.09…Hank Conger has been swinging the bat well since returning from the disabled list. He was 2-for-5 last night with his fourth double and four RBIs.
What To Watch For Today

Righthander Henry Sosa takes a 1-1, 2.03 record to the hill against Lancaster (Red Sox) and its big bats.

Carolina League

Prospect Of The Day

Jeff Bianchi was the closest thing to a POTD. With the storms that have been crossing the East Coast, only three games were played in the Carolina League and most prospects had very quiet nights.  Bianchi was 1-for-4 with a triple, run scored and two RBIs in a 8-2 win over Frederick (Orioles).

Prospect Nuggets

Matt Wieters was 0-for-1 with three walks in that game but his teammates couldn’t push him across for any runs…Beau Mills was 3-for-4 with a double and run scored in a 3-2 win over Salem (Astros)…Tyler Flowers was 1-for-3 with his sixth home run of the season in an 11-3 win over Lynchburg (Pirates).

What To Watch For Today

Winston-Salem (White Sox) and Potomac (Nationals) will continue last night’s suspended game as part of a doubleheader today while Brandon Erbe looks to get back on the right track for Frederick.

Florida State League

Prospect Of The Day

Jupiter (Marlins) first baseman Logan Morrison is currently on a hitting streak that reached six games yesterday in a doubleheader. In the first game Morrison was 2-for-4 with a double, run and RBI. In Game 2 he went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs and two RBIs. He is now hitting .310/.378/.474 on the season.

Prospect Nuggets

Todd Frazier started at shortstop yesterday for Sarasota (Reds) and went 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI…Darwin Barney was 2-for-4 with a run scored and his 11th double of the season…J.P. Arencibia was 2-for-4 with his 12th home run.

What To Watch For Today

Jeremy Jeffress (2-2, 5.13) has alternated between good and bad starts since returning from his suspension. He’ll look to continue down the good road today against Lakeland (Tigers).
