High A Dish: Lucroy Goes Deep Twice

California League

Prospect Of The Day

Just about every fifth day, Modesto (Rockies) righthander Jhoulys Chacin makes this selection pretty easy. He dominated the South Atlantic League before a promotion to the Cal League, where he has continued his success. Yesterday he beat Visalia (Diamondbacks) by throwing six innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits, while walking none and striking out three. He is now 2-0, 0.64.

Prospect Nuggets

Lake Elsinore (Padres) outfielder Kellen Kulbacki was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and his eighth double in an 8-5 loss to Bakersfield (Rangers)…Lancaster (Red Sox) outfielder Josh Reddick was 2-for-4 with with a home run, his 15th, in the JetHawks’ 4-3, ninth-inning win over Stockton (Athletics). Righthander Henry Rodriguez was on the mound for the Ports, but got a no decision after tossing six innings and giving up three runs on five hits and four walks while striking out seven.
What To Watch For Today

Four teams have the day off today, but only two games separate Visalia and Modesto, who finish up their series tonight.

Carolina League

Prospect Of The Day

With two games being postponed due to weather, it makes it harder to select a POTD, but luckily Frederick’s (Orioles) Brandon Snyder gave us a break today. In a 5-2 win over Lynchburg (Pirates), Snyder was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two doubles, giving him 19 on the year.

Prospect Nuggets

Outfielder Brandon Tripp also contributed in the Frederick win, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and his 11th double…Righthander Tim Bascom earned the win, tossing six innings and allowing just two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out five…Wilmington (Royals) righthander Edward Cegarra threw seven innings allowing just two runs (one earned) on five hits and one walk, but was denied a decision. He struck out three in the game.

What To Watch For Today

Two games, Salem (Astros) vs. Potomac (Nationals) and Kinston (Indians) vs. Winston-Salem (White Sox), were postponed due to rain yesterday and will be made up today as part of doubleheaders. Righthander John Ely is scheduled to pitch Game Two for Winston-Salem.

Florida State League

Prospect Of The Day

It’s still a mystery why the Brewers had catcher Jonathan Lucroy in low Class A for so long, but he’s put that behind him and is doing just fine in the FSL. He blasted two home runs yesterday, giving him four on his FSL season, as part of a 2-for-4 night. He’s now batting .351/.426/.649 in 57 at-bats at high Class A Brevard County.

Prospect Nuggets

Righthander Jeremy Jeffress had another one of his strange outings, giving up seven runs (five earned) on five hits and four walks. All that came over five innings, in which he struck out 10…Fort Myers (Twins) righthander Deolis Guerra fell back into one of his ruts last night, allowing five runs on four hits and five walks. However, a blown save by Lakeland (Tigers) allowed him to escape without the loss. He struck out just one in the game.

What To Watch For Today

After an abysmal first half, St. Lucie (Mets) is atop the FSL East standings and take on the Tampa Yankees tonight. The Yankees are 5-10 and in last place in the FSL West.
