So he isn’t really a prospect, but this night is just too hard to ignore. Sam Brown, playing right field for Lake Elsinore (Padres), went 5-for-6 with three doubles and two home runs. He scored five times and drove in six. That’s 14 total bases. The Storm pounded out 25 hits, won 21-4 and the 4-5-6 hitters went a combined 12-for-18 with 12 RBIs and 10 runs scored.

Prospect Nuggets

Catcher MItch Canham was 3-for-6 in that game with a stolen base…Lefthanders Kasey Kiker and Ben Snyder matched up for an intriguing pitcher’s duel. Snyder pitched eight innings allowing no runs, four hits and two walks while striking out seven. He got the win to improve to 7-2, 2.06. Kiker wasn’t as fortunate, tossing seven innings and allowing three runs on nine hits and two walks while walking five. He is now 3-2, 4.35…Trevor Cahill got a no decision after tossing 6 2/3 in which he gave up one run on four hits and four walks. He also struck out four.

What To Watch For Today

Lake Elsinore posted 21 runs yesterday while Inland Empire (Dodgers) put up 17. Those two teams start their own series today at 7 p.m. PDT.

Prospect Of The Day

Very few prospects had even average days, which is why Jarrod Dyson will take today’s honor. He was 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs in Wilmington’s (Royals) 9-4 win over Frederick (Orioles).

Prospect Nuggets

Righthander Jake Arrieta took the loss against Wilmington, lasting just four innings and allowing five runs on three hits and two walks while striking out two…Matt Wieters was 1-for-4 with a home run…Ross Detwiler picked up his fifth win after lasting five innings and allowing three runs on four hits, but he walked four and struck out just two…Daniel Moskos also earned a victory going 5 1/3 and allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits and one walk. He struck out one.

What To Watch For Today

Both Myrtle Beach (Braves) and Potomac (Nationals) have clinched their division for the first half and face the last place teams in the opposite divisions today. Myrtle Beach takes on Lynchburg (Pirates) while Potomac goes up against Winston-Salem (White Sox).

Prospect Of The Day

The FSL was even slower in terms of prospect performance. Deolis Guerra picked up a win after throwing 6 2/3 in which he allowed three runs on nine hits and one walk. He struck out two and is now 7-2, 4.83.

Prospect Nuggets

It took 15 innings, but St. Lucie (Mets) picked up its 17th win of the season after Brian Burgamy hit a sac fly that scored Ezequiel Carrera in the bottom of the 15th…Desmond Jennings was 2-for-5 with a run scored and was picked off once…J.P. Arencibia was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

What To Watch For Today

Last night’s Jupiter-Sarasota matchup was postponed due to rain, so the teams will meet today in a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. EDT.
