High A Dish: Hanson Can’t Be Stopped

The California League took a break on Monday while Tommy Hanson was dominant, again.

Prospect Of The Day

Righthander Tommy Hanson bounced back from his first loss of the season with his third one-hitter. Against Potomac (Nationals), Hanson tossed six innings, allowing just one run on one hit and one walk. He also hit two batters but struck out seven.

He still stands at 3-1, but is second in the league in ERA (0.90), first in strikeouts (40) and first in innings pitched (40).

Prospect Nuggets

Lefthander Kevin Gunderson blew his first save of the season, preventing Hanson from getting the win, but outfielder Concepcion Rodriguez hit a walk-off, solo home run in the tenth inning to lift Myrtle Beach (Braves)…Outfielder Nick Weglarz was 2-for-2 with two runs and two walks in Kinston’s (Indians) 3-1 win over Frederick (Orioles)…Righthander Jake Arrieta was denied a decision after throwing six innings, allowing an unearned run on one hit and two walks while striking out five…Winston-Salem (White Sox) lefthander John Ely dropped to 0-4, 3.86 after allowing six runs on 12 hits in four innings against Lynchburg. He didn’t walk anyone and struck out one.

What To Watch For Today

Righthander Blake Wood  makes a start for Wilmington (Royals) against Salem (Astros) after appearing in the team photo of last week’s Prospect Hot Sheet.

Florida State League

Prospect Of The Day

After homering in three straight games, shortstop Cale Iorg hit a bit of a slump, going 7-for-40 over his next 11 games. He also had seven straight games without an RBI. But last night he lifted Lakeland (Tigers) to a 9-2 win over St. Lucie (Mets) by going 2-for-5 with three RBIs and a home run. His home run was part of a four-run seventh.

Prospect Nuggets

Righthander Rick Porcello also did his part in the Lakeland victory, tossing six innings and allowing only three hits. He struck out two but walked three and now sits at 2-4, 1.98 on the year…Righthander Jeff Allison threw five innings allowing just an unearned run on four hits and two walks while striking out four, but was denied a win yet again after a blown save…Clearwater (Phillies) outfielder Quintin Berry was 2-for-3 with an RBI and his fifth double of the season. He also swiped his tenth base, but was also caught once…Lefthander Joe Savery continues striking guys out, but he’s given up three or more runs in his past three starts. Last night he went six innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on five hits and four walks while striking out eight. He got a no decision.

What To Watch For Today

Righthander Jeff Manship will take his 4-0, 3.27 record to the hill for Fort Myers (Twins) against Daytona (Cubs).
