High A Dish: Enright Deals, Thomas Hits

California League

Prospect Of The Day

Righthander Barry Enright put together his best outing of the season to lead Visalia (Diamondbacks) to a 4-2 win over San Jose (Giants). Enright tossed eight innings, allowing two unearned runs on three hits while striking out four and walking none. He’s now 6-3, 4.54.

Prospect Nuggets

Tim Alderson was on the losing end of Enright’s gem, allowing one run on six hits in five innings of work. He struck out four and walked two…Lars Anderson went 3-for-7 in a doubleheader, hitting his 13th double of the season in the second game. He also knocked in three runs…Sean Doolittle was 2-for-3 with two doubles, a run and RBI…Eric Sogard was 2-for-5 with his 18th double and stole his fifth bag…Brett Anderson earned his sixth win of the season by throwing 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out five.
What To Watch For Today

Henry Sosa (0-1, 1.08) makes his third start of 2008 against Bakersfield (Rangers).

Carolina League

Prospect Of The Day

It was a very slow day in the Carolina League. Very few prospects collected hits, let alone stood out. So today we’ll give the honor to the Potomac (Nationals) offense. The Nationals pounded out 16 runs on 23 hits in the 16-2 rout of Lynchburg (Pirates). Six Potomac players had three-hit nights and six had two or more RBIs.

Prospect Nuggets

Chris Marrero had the fewest hits on his team in the offense-laden evening. He went 1-for-6 with a double and two runs scored…Gorkys Hernandez went 1-for-3 with two runs scored. He’s had a hit in six straight games since returning from the disabled list…Matt Wieters went 1-for-3 in each game of a doubleheader and scored a run in the nightcap.

What To Watch For Today

Brandon Erbe (4-5, 4.91) will try to even up his record against Winston-Salem (White Sox) in the series opener.

Florida State League

Prospect Of The Day

Several prospects made their bid today, but we’ll give some props to a guy that’s been struggling a little bit. Tony Thomas went 2-for-4 last night with a triple, home run and five RBIs, leading Daytona (Cubs) to a 13-3 win over Lakeland (Tigers).

Prospect Nuggets

Jeremy Hellickson was untouchable yet again. He no-hit Sarasota (Reds), who has a very potent lineup, in five innings of work while walking none and striking out seven. The Reds did manage a couple of singles off of the bullpen…Quintin Berry hit his second home run of the season, a game-tying shot in the bottom of the ninth. He was 2-for-5 with three RBIs and Clearwater (Phillies) pushed the winning run across one out after Berry’s home run…J.P. Arencibia was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and his league-leading 21st double.

What To Watch For Today

Prospect showdown in the FSL: Lefthander Tyler Robertson (4-2, 2.76) faces righthander Jeremy Jeffress (2-2, 6.98) at 7 p.m. EDT.
