Prospect Of The Day

First baseman Chris Carter did everything he could to give Stockton (Athletics) a win last night. Down 1-0 in the ninth, Carter launched a two-run homer run to give his team a 2-1 lead. Bakersfield (Rangers) tied it in the bottom of the inning and Carter strolled to the plate with a runner on in the 11th. Once again he sent it packing, giving his team a 4-2 lead and ultimately another win.

Prospect Nuggets

Trevor Cahill didn’t start the game, but he did enter in the third inning and pitch six innings, giving up a run on four hits and a walk while striking out 12…Kasey Kiker was the opposing pitcher and was in line for the win before the blown save. He tossed seven innings giving up just three hits and a walk while striking out six…Kellen Kulbacki went 2-for-4 with his fourth home run…Greg Halman went 2-for-5 with a double.

What To Watch For Today

Rancho Cucamonga (Angels) and Lancaster (Red Sox) begin a scheduled doubleheader at 6 p.m. PDT while Tim Alderson and Barry Enright face off at 7:05 p.m.

Prospect Of The Day

Lefthander Daniel Moskos has had his share of tough starts this year, but yesterday went a little better than normal. He picked up the start in a suspended game that resumed yesterday. He tossed six innings allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out five to get the win.

Prospect Nuggets

Lefthander Ross Detwiler lasted just four innings, allowing six runs on nine hits and two walks. He struck out four…Cirillo Cumberbatch went 2-for-5 with a grand slam, two runs and four RBIs…Two games were postponed for the second straight day because of rain.

What To Watch For Today

Jake Arrieta (5-1, 2.45) takes the mound against Salem (Astros) in the first game of a doubleheader.

Florida State League

Prospect Of The Day

Slow day in the FSL, but J.P. Arencibia connected for his 11th home run of the season and collected four RBIs, leading Dunedin (Blue Jays) to a 7-2 win over Deolis Guerra and Fort Myers (Twins).

Prospect Nuggets

Guerra dropped to 6-2, 4.89 after lasting just 1 2/3, allowing seven runs (five earned) on five hits and three walks…Wade Townsend isn’t faring well in his demotion. He came in relief in the eighth inning last night and gave up six runs on three hits and three walks and exited before recording an out.

What To Watch For Today

Jeremy Hellickson (5-1, 2.44) and Jeff Allison (3-5, 3.97) both take the hill today in their respective contests.
