High A Dish: Bourjos Highlights Slow Night

California League

Prospect Of The Day

Just two days after showing off his range in center field at the Carolina-California League all-star game, Rancho Cucamonga’s Peter Bourjos returned to regular season action and lit up High Desert (Mariners) pitching. He went 4-for-5 with a home run, his third, two runs and two RBIs.

Prospect Nuggets

Outfielder Josh Reddick was 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs in Lancaster’s (Red Sox) comeback win over Inland Empire (Dodgers) . . . Stockton righthander Henry Rodriguez’ (Athletics) outing showed a little bit of stability. He went 5 2/3 innings, allowing one run on three hits, but did get the win, improving to 2-2, 3.13 . . . San Jose righthander Henry Sosa (Giants) lasted just three innings after being tagged for three runs on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

What To Watch For Today

Visalia righthander Wes Roemer (Diamondbacks) takes the hill against Bakersfield (Rangers) and looks to improve upon is 3-7, 4.97 mark.

Carolina League

Prospect Of The Day

Don’t let the goose egg in the home run derby fool you. Matt Wieters can swing it. In his first game back from the all-star break, the Frederick (Orioles) catcher went 2-for-4 with a double and home run, while driving in two. The home run was his 15th.

Prospect Nuggets

Kinston first baseman Nick Weglarz (Indians) went deep for his seventh time of the season, part of a 2-for-5 night . . . Salem catcher Koby Clemens (Astros) was 2-for-3 with his fourth triple of the season. He also scored two runs . . . Winston-Salem righthander John Ely (White Sox) went six innings, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks, while striking out six. He got a no decision. Wilmington righthander Edward Cegarra (Royals) isn’t seeing a lot of success at high Class A, but he’s still keeping that walk total down. In four innings of work last night he gave up six runs on six hits, but walked just one.

What To Watch For Today

Potomac (Nationals) was the first-half winner in the Northern Division and still hold that position firmly with a 6-1 start to the second half.

Florida State League

Prospect Of The Day

Sarasota shortstop Todd Frazier (Reds) gave his average a little boost last night after going 4-for-5. He had his sixth double of the season, but only had one RBI as his teammates didn’t exactly rally around him.

Prospect Nuggets

Jupiter (Marlins) hit six doubles against Dunedin (Blue Jays), but the most notable player involved was outfielder Scott Cousins . . . Outfielder Ryan Royster was 3-for-5 for Vero Beach (Rays), but they were all singles and he didn’t score or drive in any runs.

What To Watch For Today

The two games that were rained out will be made up today as part of doubleheaders. Clearwater (Phillies) plays St. Lucie (Mets) while Daytona (Cubs) takes on Lakeland (Tigers).
