High A Dish: Bourjos And Cardenas Rollin’ Along

California League

Prospect Of The Day

Center fielder Peter Bourjos had two doubles in an 11-6 Rancho Cucamonga (Angels) win over Lake Elsinore (Padres). He finished the night 3-for-5 with his 13th and 14th doubles of the year and scored three runs while knocking another one in. Both of his doubles came off of lefthander Cory Luebke.

Prospect Nuggets

Left fielder Chad Tracy was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored…Lefthander Kasey Kiker was a candidate for the Hot Sheet until last night when he last five innings, giving up four runs on eight hits and two walks. He struck out three and dropped to 3-1, 5.09.

What To Watch For Today

That three-way tie is still happening in the Southern Division and all five teams are separated by a total of three games. Lake Elsinore takes on Rancho Cucamona and Lancaster takes on Inland Empire. Should be interesting to watch for a shake up in the standings.

Carolina League

Prospect Of The Day

James Van Ostrand played a variety of positions this week and wasn’t swayed at the plate at all. Last night he went 3-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs scored. His hits included his 13th double and fourth home run of the season.

Prospect Nuggets

Righthander Deunte Heath allowed three runs on 10 hits, but still earned his seventh win of the season…Brandon Erbe suffered another loss, giving up two runs on four hits over five innings. Thanks for the run support fellas…Aaron Poreda also took a loss, lasting six innings and giving up four runs on six hits. He struck out three and walked two.

What To Watch For Today

Two high profile lefthanders take their turns today, but unfortunately not against each other. Daniel Moskos will face Wilmington (Royals) and Ross Detwiler will face Kinston (Indians).

Florida State League

  Prospect Of The Day

Second baseman Adrian Cardenas is unstoppable right now. He added to his hot streak last night, going 2-for-3 with a double, triple, run scored and two RBIs in a 4-1 win over Dunedin (Blue Jays).

Prospect Nuggets

Second baseman Tony Thomas has had his share of lows this season, but spurred them for last night at least and made an appearance in today’s team photo of the Hot Sheet. Last night he was 3-for-5 with a run and two RBIS… Deolis Guerra earned his sixth win of the season, but walked five in six innings while striking out just three. He allowed one run on four hits…Jonah Nickerson dropped out of the Hot Sheet race by throwing 5 2/3 and giving up four runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks… Heath Rollins lasted seven innings, allowing an unearned run on three hits and four strikeouts, but was denied a decision.

What To Watch For Today

St. Lucie (Mets) is 11-42 and at the bottom of FSL East. They face Palm Beach (Cardinals) today, who is at the top of the East standings at 33-20.
