Center fielder Greg Halman fell a double short of the cycle in High Desert’s (Mariners) 9-6 loss to Rancho Cucamonga (Angels). Halman was 3-for-4 with a home run, a triple and two RBIs, lifting his season line to .268/.317/.568 in 190 at-bats.

Center fielder Peter Bourjos was 2-for-5 with his fifth triple in the Quakes’ win. He also scored a run and knocked one in…Rightfielder Josh Reddick was 2-for-5 with a couple of runs and a triple as Lancaster (Red Sox) blanked Lake Elsinore (Padres) 5-0…Barry Enright got his record above the .500 mark by tossing six innings for Visalia (Diamondbacks), allowing only five hits and a walk while striking out three. He is now 4-3, 5.37.

What To Watch For Today

Lancaster is tied for first place with High Desert and starts a series with Lake Elsinore today. The Storm is just one game back of the JetHawks and Mavericks.

Prospect Of The Day

Myrtle Beach (Braves) needed every run shortstop Brandon Hicks could give them as Winston-Salem (White Sox) scored five runs in the final two innings, falling just short, 9-8. Hicks blasted two home runs, a two-run shot in the fourth and a three-run shot in the sixth, and finished the night 2-for-5 with five RBIs and two walks.

Righthander John Ely was the victim of the Pelicans’ offense, getting touched up for five runs on five hits and four walks in four innings. He also struck out four…Catcher Matt Wieters hit his 12th home run of the season, a two-run shot in the eighth that was part of a rally that fell just short as Frederick (Orioles) lost to Kinston (Indians) 5-4…Righthander Jake Arrieta took the loss to fall to 5-1. He threw six innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out five…First baseman Chris Marrero was 2-for-3 with a triple, home run and two RBIs in Potomac’s (Nationals) 12-4 rout of Lynchburg (Pirates).

Prospect Of The Day

There was only one game in the FSL on Memorial Day and two middle infielders teamed up for Daytona (Cubs) to sink Brevard County (Brewers), 9-3. Tony Thomas and Darwin Barney will be the co-winners as they combined to go 4-for-9 with two runs scored and five RBIs. Thomas hit his third home run of the season while Barney collected his 10th double. Thomas also swiped his ninth base.

Prospect Nuggets

Righthander Jeremy Jeffress continues to strike guys out a good rate, despite being knocked around. Over 4 2/3 innings, Jeffress allowed nine runs on 11 hits and one walk, but he struck out seven. He now has 22 strikeouts in 12 1/3 innings, but is 1-2, 10.22.

What To Watch For Today

Fort Myers (Twins) holds the best record in the FSL at 32-18 as the Miracle being a series against Sarasota (Reds) and its potent offense.
