Chris Coghlan, the Marlins' first round supplemental pick in 2006, capped off an eventful week with a promotion to high Class A Jupiter.
In the series finale against Greenville last Friday, Coghlan was on first base after a single with one out in the 10th inning. Outfielder Spike McDougall then shot a double down the right field line and there was no stopping Coghlan. He reached home just ahead of the throw to score the winning run.
It was a fitting ending as fans stuck around to see the Grasshoppers honor Coghlan for his selection to the Futures Game and announce that he would be heading to the Florida State League to join the Hammerheads.
Coghlan hit .325/.419/.534 in 305 at-bats for Greensboro. He also hit 10 home runs, seven of which came at cozy First Horizon Park.
