Bell Rings For Bubba

Center fielder Bubba Bell, the Red Sox’ 39th-round pick out of Nicholls State in 2005, was promoted to Double-A Portland after his 76-game assault on high Class A California League pitching.

Bell hit .370/.455/.665 for Lancaster’”including .410/.492/.747 at home’”and his name littered the high Class A leaderboards. The 24-year-old lefthanded batter leaves high Class A as its leader in home runs (22), average and slugging percentage, and he was just six points off the on-base percentage lead.

Portland and the Eastern League won’t be as gracious as blustery Lancaster, but Bell’s gaudy numbers would catch any organization’s attention.
