We’ve known for quite a while that Lancaster, home to the JetHawks, is best known for its jet stream. It’s the ballpark where shutouts turn into 11-10 games and a pop up can turn into a home run.
But Wednesday night showed just how powerful the wind can be in Lancaster. With daytime temperatures in the 60s and not a drop of rain, the scheduled Lancaster-Modesto game had to be postponed because of high winds. The wind was blowing at a steady 40 mph with gusts of more than 50 mph, it was decided that the conditions were just too extreme to play baseball.
Our resident Non-Prospect Diarist Dirk Hayhurst showed last year just how extreme the winds at Lancaster can be. Click the video to see what the Lancaster gusts can do to a baseball cap.
