It’s been an amazing year for Marlins righthander Jose Fernandez.
It began with him making the jump from Class A to the big league rotation this spring. It got even better when Fernandez proved to not only be ready for the big leagues but ready to star. Fernandez went 12-6, 2.19 this year with dominant start after dominant start.
And this week, it reached a pinnacle. Not only did he win the National League Rookie of the Year award, but even more importantly he was reunited with his grandmother, who had been left behind when he and his mother left Cuba when Jose was 15.
MLB.com has the story, which does a good job of tugging at the heartstrings.
