The Padres cleared a 40-man roster spot in a minor trade with the Athletics while simultaneously acquiring the older brother of their 2011 first-round draft pick. San Diego sent lefty Andrew Werner and utility infielder Andy Parrino to Oakland for righthander Tyson Ross and minor league first baseman A.J. Kirby-Jones.

Marlins Deal Five Vets In 12-Player Trade With Jays

The Marlins pared nearly $57 million in salary commitments for 2013 by trading five veterans to the Blue Jays for a seven-player package highlighted by shortstop Yunel Escobar, righty Henderson Alvarez and Toronto's Nos. 2, 5 and 8 prospects. The Blue Jays receive starters Josh Johnson and Mark Buehrle, shortstop Jose Reyes, catcher John Buck and center fielder Emilio Bonifacio.

Royals Acquire Ervin Santana From Angels

The Angels had stated publicly that they did not intend to bring back righthander Ervin Santana for the $13 million that his contract option promised him in 2014. So rather than lose him for nothing, they traded him to the pitching-starved Royals for Triple-A lefty reliever Brandon Sisk.
