Jamie Hoffman's career choice wasn't looking so good this time two years ago. Hoffmann decided in 2003 not to sign with the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes, who had drafted him in the eighth round, or to accept a hockey scholarship to Colorado College. He had passed up all those icy dreams to pursue a baseball career by signing with the Dodgers as a nondrafted free agent. That decision seemed dubious after he experienced a lackluster 2006 season in high Class A Vero Beach.
