Rule 5 Relief

Brian McTaggart -Premium Content

General manager Ed Wade has a pretty good recent track record in the Rule 5 draft, having taken Shane Victorino when he was in Philadelphia and last year watching lefthander Wesley Wright emerge as a key member of the Astros' bullpen. Wade selected another lefty in the Rule 5 draft, taking lefthanded reliever Gilbert De La Vara from the Royals. De La Vara, 24, was 3-3, 3.65 in 24 outings at high Class A Wilmington in 2008.
