Shortstop Troy Tulowitzki and catcher Chris Iannetta spent most of January working out at Coors Field, just as they did a year ago. Only this time, they participated in the Rockies winter development program with an eye toward being in Colorado's Opening Day lineup. Both spent time in the big leagues at the end of 2006.

he Rockies stayed within the organization to fill their coaching vacancies when Alan Cockrell and Glenallen Hill were promoted to the big leagues. Cockrell was hired as hitting coach and Hill as first-base coach, a job that also entails outfield and baserunning instruction. Hill began last season, his third in the organization, as hitting coach at high Class A Modesto. But when Modesto manager Chad Kreuter resigned in early June to become coach at Southern California, Hill, who played 13 years in the big leagues, managed the Nuts for the final three months of the season.
