Red Sox Acquire Gonzalez To Fill Hole At Shortstop

The Deal
An injury to Jed Lowrie and ineffective play by veteran Julio Lugo prompted the Red Sox to go outside the organization for help. They traded high Class A middle infielder Kris Negron to the Reds for veteran shortstop Alex Gonzalez.

Negron moved back to his amateur position of shortstop this season after recently spending a lot of time at second base. He has swiped 97 bases in four pro seasons, showing his above-average speed, but for a player who doesn’t hit for power (.355 career slugging) and isn’t a pure shortstop, he comes up a bit short in the hit department.
