In Baseball America’s new Midseason Prospect Update, catcher Austin Hedges remains the No. 1 prospect in San Diego’s system, as he was coming into the season. The Padres drafted Hedges in the second round of the 2011 draft, and he has been climbing the ladder through San Diego’s system since. This season with Double-A San Antonio, Hedges is batting .234 with 25 extra-base hits. He has shown raw power, but his main calling card is still his plus-defensive ability behind the dish.
