A Starting Role

Jon Meloan had spent virtually his entire professional career as a hard-throwing reliever, posting 19 saves in 35 appearances for Double-A Jacksonville last season before a promotion to Triple-A Las Vegas. Even his big league debut in September was out of the bullpen. Still, the Dodgers decided this spring to convert him into a starting pitcher.
