Outfielder Micker Zapata, the No. 9 international prospect for July 2, has signed with the White Sox for $1.6 million.
Zapata, a 16-year-old righthanded hitter, stands out for his size (6-foot-3, 215 pounds) and outstanding raw power that ranks as the best in Latin America, although he will have to make adjustments to get to it more frequently in games. Zapata was born in the U.S. Virgin Islands and already speaks fluent English. He has been training in the Dominican Republic with Moreno Tejada and working out at La Academia.
