The Astros have signed 16-year-old Dominican outfielder Felix Lucas for $225,000.
A righthanded hitter, Lucas projects as a right fielder who stands out for his size (6-foot-3, 195 pounds), above-average raw power and arm strength. Lucas plays in the International Prospect League and trains with Jose Valdez (known as “Peluza”) and Amauris Nina.
Since July 2, the Astros have also signed Dominican shortstop Joan Mauricio for $600,000, Venezuelan outfielder Nestor Tejada, Venezuelan shortstop/catcher Jonathan Matute for $245,000 and speedy Dominican shortstop/center fielder Osvaldo Duarte.
The Astros also added second baseman Ronald Torreyes from the Cubs in exchange for their second and third international bonus slots, which amounts to $784,700 in pool space.
