2008 Baseball America Awards Gala

Less Broadway, more baseball this year.

The Winter Meetings wouldn't be complete without the Baseball America Awards Gala. This year's event featured five awards, with our Major (Theo Esptein) and Minor League (Naomi Silver) Executives of the Year, as well as the coveted Organization of the Year, given to the Tampa Bay Rays. Arizona Fall League MVP honors went to Braves righthander Tommy Hanson. And our annual Roland Hemond Award—named for the longtime front-office executive who epitomizes excellence in the fields of scouting and player development—went to a Royal for the second year in a row. Pitching guru Bill Fischer couldn't match Art Stewart for length of speech, but now both have Hemond Awards to be proud of.
