After high school players dominated the first round, balance has been restored in round two. Fifteen college players and 15 high school players comprised the second round, with prep pitchers (10) leading the way. The top three college shortstops all went in the third round, as Mississippi’s Zack Cozart went 79th overall to the Reds, North Carolina’s Josh Horton went 90th to the Athletics, and Pepperdine’s Danny Worth went 91st to the Tigers. There were also a number of quality college arms selected in the round, including Arkansas teammates Duke Welker (68th, Pirates) and Jess Todd (82nd, Cardinals); Georgia’s Joshua Fields (69th, Braves); and Clemson’s David Kopp (71st, Cardinals). Each of those pitchers have touched at least 94 mph at times.
