Scherzer Debuts Well

Former Missouri righthander Max Scherzer allowed one hit and struck out six in his professional debut Saturday night, pitching 3 2/3 innings of shutout ball for the Fort Worth Cats of the independent American Association. The Cats beat Shreveport 6-0 in the game.

Scherzer, the unsigned 2006 first-round pick of the Diamondbacks, is pitching with the Cats to showcase himself for the ’07 draft, a procedure that worked well for fellow Scott Boras Corporation client Luke Hochevar last year.
