2013 Draft State Report: Minnesota

Though terrible spring weather made it exceedingly difficult for scouts to see players in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, they still found several reasons to make the trip.

THIS YEAR’S CROP
***** One for the books
**** Banner year
*** Solid, not spectacular
** Not up to par
* Nothing to see here
Rating compares this year’s group to what a state typically produces, not to other states

Red Wing High outfielder Ryan Boldt might have gone in the first round before he tore the meniscus in his right knee, but he shouldn’t fall too far, and he and Minnesota lefthander Tom Windle could give the state a pair of top-two-round selections. That hasn’t happened since 1990, when Dan Wilson and Tom Nevers both went in the first round. D.J. Snelten gives the Golden Gophers another lefty for the first five rounds, and the high schools are deeper than usual.
