2013 Draft State Report: Georgia

Georgia has had greater depth in past seasons, but the state is still strong at the top with a pair of top 10 talents in prep outfielders Clint Frazier and Austin Meadows. Josh Hart had joined the Loganville duo as a likely first-round pick.

Georgia Tech also had a top-heavy roster, with five players likely to go in the first 10 rounds. The order of those players, however, was up in the air as catcher Zane Evans likely had moved ahead of righty Buck Farmer. That list would be even deeper had righthander Matthew Grimes not missed the season after Tommy John surgery.

The state’s junior college talent was up for the draft, with as many as five players possibly being picked in the first 10 rounds. However, the state’s flagship school, Georgia, had a brutal season that led to the firing of coach Dave Perno. No Bulldog is considered a top 10 round talent, but that is expected to change in the future with the hiring of Scott Stricklin, most recently coach at Kent State and previously an assistant coach at Georgia Tech under Danny Hall.
