OMAHA—The College World Series game between Virginia and Mississippi was suspended by a thunderstorm Friday night, with no score and Virginia batting in the top of the second inning. Play will be resumed Saturday at 3 p.m. ET, followed by Texas-Vanderbilt at 7 p.m. If the Rebels win tomorrow, they’ll face the Cavaliers again Sunday at a time to be determined.
With the extra day of rest, both teams might elect to use their aces (Nathan Kirby and Chris Ellis) when play resumes Saturday. Jeremy Massie and Josh Sborz started Friday; Sborz worked a 1-2-3 first inning, while Massie allowed two baserunners in the first and two more in the second before play was stopped.
The storm occurred on the third anniversary of the weather event that Omaha media members mockingly and lovingly call the TD Ameritragedy. Never forget.
