The Hurricanes went 4-0 to add an ACC tournament championship to their regular-season title. So. RHP David Gutierrez (5 IP, 6 H, 3 ER) picked up the win in the championship game against Virginia, as Miami pounded out 15 hits in support.

2. FLORIDA STATE

The Seminoles went 2-1 at the ACC tournament and scored six runs in the ninth to come from behind against No. 1 North Carolina on Saturday. But Virginia won the head-to-head game against the Seminoles to advance to the conference championship game. Jr. C Buster Posey homered twice Wednesday against Wake Forest, giving him 19 on the year. Posey didn’t start against UNC, his first game out of the FSU lineup since he arrived in campus, but had a two-run single in the ninth-inning rally.

3. NORTH CAROLINA

The Tar Heels blew late leads Wednesday and Saturday, as the bullpen gave up two runs in the ninth against Virginia and six in the ninth against Florida State. Sr. RHP Rob Wooten surrendered five earned runs in 2.1 IP.

4. ARIZONA STATE

The Sun Devils clinched the Pac-10 championship when Arizona beat Stanford on Monday. In order to rest for the postseason, ASU did not start So. RHP Mike Leake on the mound against the Wildcats but did use him for 4.2 IP of relief in Friday’s extra-innings loss. Leake did start the opener in right field. Arizona won the series.

5. LOUISIANA STATE

The Tigers stretched their incredible winning streak to 20 games with a perfect 4-0 run through the SEC tournament. So. 2B Ryan Schimpf’s two-run double and So. OF Blake Dean’s two-run homer highlighted LSU’s five-run fifth in the title game against Mississippi. Jr. RHP Louis Coleman (6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K) was brilliant in relief to pick up the win in that one.

The Cowboys went 2-1 in pool play at the Big 12 tournament, but Kansas State beat Oklahoma State to earn the tie-breaker and advance to the title game. Sr. 1B Rebel Ridling (3-for-4, 3 R, 6 RBI, 2 HR) led an 18-hit attack in Friday’s win against Baylor.

The Toreros swept Pepperdine to win the best-of-three WCC championship series. In the opener, Jr. LHP Brian Matusz (8 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 9 K) improved to 11-2, 1.88 with 131-21 K-BB in 96 IP. USD rapped out 19 hits in the second game, led by So. OF Kevin Muno (5-for-6, 2B, 3 RBI).

8. CAL STATE FULLERTON

The Titans won their series opener at Long Beach behind Sr. RHPJeff Kaplan (5.1 IP, 3 H, 1 ER), but they dropped the last two games of the series to fall into a tie with the Dirtbags atop the Big West standings. LBSU won the head-to-head tie-breaker to capture the conference title and automatic bid. Jr. RHP Cory Arbiso (2.2 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 5 ER) was hit hard Sunday.

The Owls went two-and-barbecue at the Conference USA tournament after winning the event the last two years. Rice mustered just five hits in the elimination game against ECU.

The top-seeded Bulldogs went 0-2 in the SEC tournament, including their third loss to Alabama in the last two weeks. The Bulldogs mustered just 10 hits in the two losses. Georgia is just 7-9 in its last 16 games.

Jr. RHP Scott Gorgen (7 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 6 K) fell to 10-3 in Friday’s loss. Jr. DH Tony Asaro (4-for-5, 3 R, 4 RBI, 2 2B) led a 16-hit attack in Saturday’s win—the 800th Division I win for UCI coach Mike Gillespie.

12. MISSOURI

The Tigers went 1-2 in pool play at the Big 12 tournament. So. RHP Kyle Gibson (2.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K) picked up the win in relief Wednesday to give Missouri its third victory against Texas this season. But Gibson (0.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER) relinquished a 3-2 lead in the ninth inning against Oklahoma, blowing a save for Jr. RHP Aaron Crow (7 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K).

Texas A&M’s losing streak stretched to eight games as the Aggies dropped their first two games at the Big 12 tournament, but they salvaged a win against Missouri on Saturday. Fr. LHP Brooks Raley (1.2 IP, 9 H, 10 ER) was hammered in the loss against Texas, but Fr. RHP Barret Loux (6.1 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 5 K) delivered a strong start in the win against Missouri.

Stanford won two out of three at Washington to finish second in the Pac-10. Jr. RHP/3B Austin Yount struck out 10 in a complete game Friday against Washington, and Jr. LHP Jeremy Bleich (2.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K) turned in an encouraging performance Sunday in his first start since March 28.

Michigan went 3-0 to add a Big Ten tournament championship to its regular-season title. Jr. RHP/DH Zach Putnam (7 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 9 K) improved to 8-0 in the win against Illinois, and Fr. RHP Tyler Burgoon (4.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K) picked up the win in relief in the title game against Purdue.

The Chanticleers won their second straight Big South tournament championship and their record ninth overall. The Chanticleers won their first three games before Liberty pounded them 13-1 to force a decisive final game. Sr. OF Tommy Baldridge (3-for-4, 3 R, 2B) led a 17-hit attack in the finale.

The Horned Frogs had to fight through the loser’s bracket after dropping their second game to New Mexico, but they beat the Lobos twice in the finals to capture the Mountain West tournament title. Sr. OF Clint Arnold went 6-for-6 with two doubles, a homer and five RBIs in the finale, part of a 12-for-18 weekend.

The Longhorns dropped their Big 12 tournament opener against Missouri but won their next three games to capture the conference tournament championship. So. OF Russell Moldenhauer (4-for-6, 2 R, 4 RBI, 2 2B) led a 19-hit attack in the title game against Kansas State.

The Bears were shut out in consecutive games by UCLA to stretch their losing streak to four, but they salvaged a win in Sunday’s finale to finish tied with Arizona for fourth place in the Pac-10. Cal blew a 3-0 lead in the final two innings Sunday, as UCLA scored four in the eighth and two in the ninth, but the Bears answered with two in the bottom of the ninth to tie it and won on Sr. 2B Josh Satin’s walk-off homer in the 10th. Cal’s just 6-9 in its last 15 games.

21. WICHITA STATE


Last Week:
3-0. Overall: 44-15, 19-5 in MVC (0-6 vs. Top 25). Weekend Series: 12-1.

The Shockers went 3-0 to add an MVC tournament title to their regular-season championship. Jr. 3B Conor Gillaspie hit a solo home run to break a 10-10 tie in the eighth inning of the finale.

The Dirtbags dropped their series opener against Cal State Fullerton but won the final two games of the series to capture the Big West title. LBSU tied Fullerton atop the standings but won the tie-breaker by winning the head-to-head series. The Dirtbags rapped out 16 hits Sunday in support of Jr. RHP Vance Worley (9 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 6 K).

DH Rafael Valenzuela delivered a walk-off RBI single in the 11th inning Saturday, and Jr. OF Jon Gaston drove in four runs Sunday in support of Jr. LHP Eric Berger (5.2 IP, 5 H, 0 R).

Jr. LHP Scott Barnes (6.1 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 6 K) took a 4-1 lead into the seventh inning against the Pirates, but SHU piled on against the bullpen in a nine-run seventh.
