RHP Chance Ruffin (8.1 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K) lost the week’s Marquee Mound Matchup to Missouri All-American Kyle Gibson (9 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 11 K). So. RHP Brandon Workman (7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K) improved to 3-1, 0.63 in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader. Fr. RHP Taylor Jungmann threw four hitless, scoreless innings of relief Sunday to pick up the win, as Texas rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth, pushing across the final run on an error.

Fr. 2B Levi Michael (2-for-5, 5 RBI) hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning Friday to put UNC up for good and make a winner out of Jr. RHP Alex White (6 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 8 K). Michael had three more hits Sunday, Jr. C Mark Fleury added a grand slam, and the Tar Heels stole eight bases—their most in a game since 2002. Jr. RHP Adam Warren (5 IP, 6 H, 3 ER) picked up his 25th career win in that one, and So. RHP Matt Harvey (4 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K) earned his first career save.

RHP/OF Tyler Pill (7 IP, 11 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 5 K). Sr. 1B Jared Clark (5-for-5, 3 R, 2B) led a 14-hit attack in Friday’s win against Oklahoma State. Jr. RHP Kyle Witten (5.1 IP, 10 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 0 BB, 7 K) suffered Fullerton’s lone loss of the road trip on Saturday against Oklahoma State, as the Titans rapped out 14 hits but left nine runners on base. Fr. LHP Noe Ramirez (7 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 8 K) improved to 3-0, 2.84 in Sunday’s win over URI.

Sr. RHP Louis Coleman allowed just one run on four hits in a seven-inning complete game in the finale, and Jr. RHP Ryan Schimpf broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth with a two-run homer off UK freshman standout Alex Meyer (5 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 5 BB, 6 K in his first weekend start).

RHP Seth Blair (5 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K) improve to 2-0 on the year. Fr. LHP Mitchell Lambson (5.2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 12 K) was a tough-luck loser in relief Saturday. Jr. LHP Josh Spence, who left a March 1 game against Missouri after taking a line drive off his face, returned this week, allowing two runs over eight innings in two appearances, including four innings in Sunday’s win.

The Toreros managed an unearned run in the seventh inning Friday to prevent Jr. RHP Ryan Berry (9 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 8 K) from recording his third consecutive complete-game shutout; he settled for his third straight complete-game win, improving to 3-0, 1.42 with a 31-5 K-BB ratio in 32 IP. The Owls were shut out on four hits Sunday in a game that was delayed for more than three hours by rain after the first inning.

Georgia jumped out to a 7-0 lead Sunday, then fell behind 8-7, but Jr. RHP Rich Poythress homered to tie it in the fifth, and the Bulldogs scored two runs in the sixth to win it. Poythress has recorded four consecutive two-hit games.

Bardeen then took the mound and worked 1.2 innings to earn the win in relief of Jr. LHP Daniel Bibona (5.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 9 K). So. RHP Crosby Slaught held Tulane scoreless over a career-high 5.1 innings in a no-decision Sunday, and Jr. 2B Casey Stevenson’s RBI single in the ninth gave Irvine a walk-off win.

OF Casey Johnson’s walk-off RBI single. Johnson had three hits Saturday to lead a 12-hit attack against South Florida, and Jr. LHP J.R. Robinson (6 IP, 2 H, 0 R) picked up the win in relief. Jr. RHP Garrett Richards (2 IP, 10 H, 7 R, 6 ER) was hit hard in Sunday’s loss, and Oklahoma’s late rally from an 8-2 deficit came up short.

The final two games of the series were washed out. Virginia’s three hottest hitters remained hot in a 14-hit assault Friday. So. OF Dan Grovatt (2-for-5, 3 R, 3 RBI, HR) is hitting .483, Fr. 3B Steven Proscia (3-for-4, 3 R, RBI) is hitting .467, and So. OF Jarrett Parker (3-for-6, R, 2 RBI, 2B) is hitting .459. Fr. LHP Danny Hultzen (7 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 13 K) dominated again, improving to 4-0, 1.04 with a 39-5 K-BB ratio in 26 IP.

Sr. OF Kent Matthes (9-for-20, 8 R, 11 RBI, 2B, 4 HR) had another strong week and led the Crimson Tide to a series win against Georgia. Matthes leads the nation with 13 homers in 16 games. Sr. RHP Austin Hyatt (8 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 6 K) improved to 4-0, 2.06 in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader. Jr. 1B Brandon May (2-for-4, 2 R, 6 RBI, HR) hit a first-inning grand slam to kick-start the offense in Game Two, and Fr. LHP Adam Morgan (7.1 IP, 8 H, 4 ER) struck out a career-high nine. The Tide rallied from an early 7-0 deficit to take an 8-7 lead on Matthes’ three-run homer in the fourth, but Georgia bounced back to win it. Alabama has won nine straight home SEC series dating back to 2007, and five straight series against Georgia dating to 2005.

The Golden Gophers went to Fort Worth and won a series against red-hot TCU. The series was pushed back a day and will be concluded Monday. Minnesota came from behind Saturday with three in the eighth inning, highlighted by Jr. C Kyle Knudson’s two-run double. Sr. RHP Tom Buske (6.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 7 K) stymied the Horned Frogs Sunday, and Fr. SS A.J. Pettersen (2-for-4, R, 2 RBI, 2B, 3B) led the offense from the No. 9 hole. Minnesota also has quality wins this year against UC Santa Barbara, Washington and Hawaii.

The Toreros made four errors Thursday behind erratic So. RHP Darrin Campbell (5.2 IP, 8 H, 8 R, 5 ER, 8 BB, 2 K). They made two more errors Friday and mustered just one hit in support of So. RHP Kyle Blair (8 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 9 K). A three-hours-plus rain delay ended Jr. RHP Matt Thomson’s day after one inning Sunday, but Jr. RHP A.J. Griffin (8 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 8 K) shut down the Owls for the rest of the day when play resumed.

Jr. RHP Brad Stillings (5.1 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 6 BB, 6 K) worked around control issues and took a no-decision in a duel against Kennesaw ace Kyle Heckathorn (7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 9 K) in the opener. The Owls broke a 6-6 tie with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth in the nightcap.

RHP Greg Peavey (5.2 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 7 K) took the loss in Game Two, which was suspended by rain in the seventh and resumed Sunday. The Bears jumped on Jr. RHP Jorge Reyes (2 IP, 7 H, 4 ER) in the finale, and the Beavers couldn’t come back despite a valiant relief effort from Fr. RHP Sam Gaviglio (6.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 8 K).
