more, because their bullpen held Tulane’s offense hitless over the
final 3.1 IP. Tulane salvaged the series finale on the strength of a
five-run sixth inning, highlighted by So. OF Anthony Scelfo’s
three-run homer. That made a winner out of So. RHP Shooter Hunt (6.2
IP, 2 ER, 8 H, 5 K).

The Horned Frogs might have been better
served to spend their weekend at the beach making sand castles.
Coastal Carolina put up four runs (three earned) in three innings
against Jr. RHP Jake Arrieta on Friday, and the Chanticleers greeted
Sr. LHP Donald Furrow with five more runs in the fourth to break the
game open. The pitching woes continued Saturday as TCU dropped two
more contests, first when UNC Wilmington scored five runs in the
eighth to break open a 5-4 game, then when Notre Dame put up four
runs in five innings against Jr. RHP Chris Johnson. Jr. RHP Seth
Garrison stopped the bleeding with a solid outing Sunday (6.2 IP, 1
ER, 6 H, 4 K, 1 BB), as the Frogs scored four times in the fourth and
held on for the win against N.C.
State.

So. RHP Alex Wilson pitched
well in another no-decision Friday (5 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 2 K, 2 BB), as
Miami (Ohio) won its season opener by scoring three times in the
ninth against Winthrop closer Jonathan Settle. The Eagles stranded
seven runners in the first game Saturday, when they were held
scoreless after the second inning by Miami Jr. RHP Connor Graham and
two relievers. Winthrop coughed up another ninth-inning lead in the
nightcap Saturday, but the Eagles scored the winning run in the 10th
on a wild pitch.

Jr. LHP Will Kline had his best
start of the year in Friday’s win, striking out a career-high 13 over
eight innings, and the Rebels scored the winning run in the ninth
when Wright State catcher Gerald Ogrinc tried to pick pinch-runner
Evan Button off third base following ball four of an intentional
walk, and the throw sailed wide. So. RHP Lance Lynn was the hard-luck
loser in Saturday’s rain and lightning-shortened game (6 IP, 1 ER, 5
H, 9 K, 4 BB). Ole Miss dropped the rubber game Sunday despite the
return of So. RHP Cody Satterwhite (1.1 IP of relief, 0 R, 0 H, 1 K,
1 BB) from tendonitis.
