1. VIRGINIA

Virginia capped a perfect week by outscoring Duke 31-6 in a three-game sweep. The Cavaliers continue to lead the nation in wins and winning percentage (.923), and they lead the ACC by two games over Georgia Tech.

2. SOUTH CAROLINA

For the second time this season, South Carolina won a hard-fought series against an SEC East rival ranked No. 1 in the nation. The Gamecocks came from behind with four runs in the seventh to win Sunday’s rubber game against Vanderbilt and move into sole possession of first place in the SEC, a game ahead of Vandy and Florida. One piece of bad news: So. OF Adam Matthews aggravated his strained left hamstring Saturday, and coach Ray Tanner said it’s “unlikely that he’ll play again” this season.

3. OREGON STATE

Where to begin? Oregon State followed its first sweep of Arizona State since 1966 by sweeping a series at Stanford for the first time ever—and all without All-American Andrew Susac, who had hamate surgery. Oregon State sits atop the Pac-10 and owns a nine-game winning streak, tied for the nation’s longest active streak. OSU’s 27-7 start is tied for the best 34-game start in school history (with the 2005 and 2007 Omaha teams).

4. VANDERBILT

Vanderbilt dropped an intense road series at South Carolina to fall into a tie with Florida for second place in the SEC East, a game behind the Gamecocks. The Commodores led 3-1 after six innings in the rubber game, but their vaunted bullpen failed to deliver in South Carolina’s decisive four-run seventh.

5. FLORIDA

8. CAL STATE FULLERTON

Fullerton has been on a roll since its 0-4 road trip to LSU and Texas A&M, going 19-2 since, capped by a sweep of UC Santa Barbara this weekend. The Titans are in firm control of the Big West, with a two-game lead (plus the head-to-head tie-breaker) over UC Irvine.

9. ARIZONA STATE

The Sun Devils bounced back from last week’s sweep at the hands of Oregon State by sweeping a home series against Washington State. Arizona State sits in fourth place in the Pac-10, just a game behind second-place UCLA and California.

10. FLORIDA STATE

After scoring one run in Friday’s loss, the Seminoles erupted for 33 runs over the next two days to win a road series at Virginia Tech and stay atop the ACC’s Atlantic Division. Earlier in the week, the Seminoles improved to 3-1 in midweek games against rival Florida this season.

13. GEORGIA TECH

14. NORTH CAROLINA

UNC squandered the momentum it had built with back-to-back series wins against Clemson and at Florida State. The Tar Heels were swept by rival North Carolina State for the first time since 1997, causing them to tumble to fourth place in the ACC’s Coastal Division. UNC has two road series losses against sub-.500 ACC teams (Wake Forest was the other).

16. OKLAHOMA STATE

The Cowboys won their fourth straight series, out-slugging rival Oklahoma to win two of three in the annual Bedlam Series. It was OSU’s first Bedlam Series win since 2008. The Cowboys are just a game behind Texas and Texas A&M in the Big 12 heading into next weekend’s showdown in College Station.

UCLA seems to be finding its groove a bit. The Bruins have opened Pac-10 play with four straight series wins, although their series against Arizona this weekend was their first this season against a ranked foe. The Bruins are tied with Cal for second place in the Pac-10 behind Oregon State.

21. ARKANSAS

Arizona dropped a road series at UCLA to fall to sixth place in the Pac-10. The Wildcats have won only one of their first four conference series, but they have not been swept, and they have played a very challenging early slate, opening conference play with four straight series against ranked teams (at Arizona State, vs. Oregon State, vs. Cal, at UCLA).
