While we wait for today’s exciting batch of early super-regional games to wrap up, I figured I’d comment on last night’s other late game. North Carolina wasn’t the only team to pull out a come-from-behind victory, as Rice did the same in Houston. The Owls trailed Texas A&M 2-1 heading into the ninth inning, but they pushed across a run against Aggies ace Kyle Nicholson, who had relieved David Newmann in the seventh. Then in the 10th, the Owls put two runners aboard on a Danny Lehmann drag bunt and a Joe Savery walk, chasing Nicholson. Jordan Dodson followed with a walk-off RBI single against Gary Campfield, giving Rice a dramatic 3-2 win and a 1-0 advantage in the super-regional. The Aggies could be in trouble, as Nicholson threw 3 2/3 innings yesterday, and tonight they’ll likely go up against Savery.
