OU’s Reza Out 4-6 Weeks

Oklahoma junior Aaron Reza will miss up to four-to-six weeks after breaking his left hand in practice this week, according to a press release by the school. Reza, the Sooners’™ starting shortstop and a team captain, made 56 starts and hit .318/.420/.406 in his first season after transferring from Modesto (Calif.) Junior College. As a sophomore, Reza committed one error throughout the season, and he hit .353 in 53 at-bats in the Cape Cod League last summer before an injury ended his season early.

“He is a tough kid and is probably capable of practicing and playing with a soft cast,” OU coach Sonny Golloway said. “However, it’™s within his best interest and the team’™s to sit out and let the hand heal for the next couple of weeks. We expect him to make a full and speedy recovery.”

Oklahoma opens its season next Friday in a tournament hosted by Texas-Pan American, and Reza likely will also miss their appearance in a tournament at UNC Wilmington from Feb. 9-11 that includes No. 6 South Carolina.
