No More Morris Magic

For the first time in Jim Morris’ 14-year tenure as Miami’s head coach, the Hurricanes did not win a regional. Miami lost to Louisville for the second time in three days and was eliminated from the Columbia (Mo.) Regional. The Cardinals jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning on Jorge Castillo’s three-run double, but Miami stormed back to take a 5-4 lead midway through the fifth. Louisville took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the frame, highlighted by a two-run Chris Dominguez homer. The Cardinals held on for an 8-7 win and must now beat Louisville twice to take the regional. And Miami heads home, ending its NCAA-record streak of 13 consecutive regional championships. It was a disappointing end to a disappointing season for the Hurricanes, which entered the season with a No. 2 national ranking.
