Hurricanes In Trouble Early

CORAL GABLES, Fla.–Arizona jumped out to an early lead on Miami with four straight two-out hits in the top of the first inning. Miami is the visiting team and failed to score in the top half of the first inning. The bottom half started with a hard ground ball up the middle that just glanced off shortstop Ryan Jackson’s glove. The official scorekeeper gave Jackson a hard-luck error on the play. Miami starter Eric Erickson got the next two hitters out but then allowed an RBI double from Jon Gaston, a home run from C.J. Ziegler, a single from T.J. Steele (and a stolen base) and another single from Mike Weldon which drove in the fourth and final run of the inning.

Neither team scored in the second inning.

The Hurricanes just got on the board, scoring their first run of the game on a Mark Sobolewski double down the right-field line. Jemile weeks scored on the play after walking and stealing second base earlier in the inning.

It’s 4-1 Arizona in the middle of the third.
